The Downfall of Most High School Students

Procrastination. It is something that most high school students did and still do, whether it be in class or at home. Procrastination is so tempting that even the most hardworking of all students will probably give in at some point. The things we come in contact with everyday such as friends, computers or televisions, may be a trigger for procrastination. Procrastination is sneaky to the point where it lurks in every corner. Writing an English essay beside your bed may seem easy, but once you take a look at the smooth quilt and puffy pillow, you think of taking a short after-school nap, as procrastination draws you into its trap.

Although the art of procrastination may be a temporary way to relax, the stress and workload accumulates. In return, this leads to work and assignments done poorly, or not handed in on time. Procrastination is also an act of laziness. When there is a load of work that needs to be handed in, students tend to be lazy and slack off until the last minute. They often say, “maybe later”, or, “I can get it done on time”, to comfort them into thinking that procrastination is right. This is not the correct way to think. Only with hard work and persistence can one succeed, for good things do not fall from the sky.

Procrastination is wasting time. It is when you talk on the phone when you have a project due tomorrow. It is when you play that spanking new video game system you got for your birthday when you should be doing homework. It is anything that distracts you from doing the task that you should be doing. It is evil, like Darth Vader telling you to join the dark side, too hard to avoid.

When your grades are falling like a cat from a four-storey window, procrastination is the last thing you want to do. A pencil needs to be taken out, and paper should be madly scribbled on for excellent school marks. Procrastination often results in one of two things: disappointment or failure. Both of which have negative impacts on the student’s mind and perhaps encourage them to continue procrastinating because improvement requires more work. The negative results of procrastination may also affect the student’s overall health and wellness, giving them unnecessary worries such as anxiety and high blood pressure. Few students find that working in a pressurized environment after procrastinating increases critical thinking, and gives them the urgency to produce better quality work. Having said this, procrastination is not suggested because the feeling of urgency increases anxiety.

Procrastination is an act of wasting time and putting off important work until later. Aside from the few that feel good after procrastinating, most students have to suffer through its heart-shattering consequences. The end results of procrastination are: an unorganized time schedule, disappointment and perhaps failure. Procrastination is an art that even the best of students should not practice.
You gotta dig it. Took 3 hours to write, baby.
